MEERUT: In a shocking case, which has been caught on CCTV camera, a 20-year-old Meerut youth was arrested for flashing in front of girls living in a hostel. On Sunday, the girls approached police with a CCTV camera footage in which the man is seen flashing outside the hostel, and questioned the absence of anti-Romeo squads on the spot. The case has raised questions on women’s security in Uttar Pradesh and the much publicized anti-Romeo squads. Police have now filed an FIR in the matter.In their complaint, the girls have alleged that this has been going on for the past two weeks and that the man even asked them for sexual favours.“A man, who appears to be from a well-off family passes in the lane of our hostel on his scooter every day and flashes at us. Not just this, he has even asked for sexual favours from the girls. This does not happen late at night. The youth starts making rounds of hostel around 10 am every day and frequents the place several times,” said one of the girls staying at the hostel.Sources in the police department claim that the victims were initially wary of reporting the matter to the cops and it came to light only after one of the victims, fed up of the consistent harassment, decided to approach police. An FIR under IPC’s section 354 A (sexual harassment) has been registered and the man, identified as one Kartik , 20, has been arrested.Meerut SP (city) Ranvijay Singh said, “The girls studying at the hostel situated in Lalkurti area have come forward and informed the police about this man who harasses them whenever they leave their hostel to go somewhere. The man – who involved in vulgar acts outside the hostel in front of the women – has been captured on CCTV camera, a footage of which we have. The accused has been arrested and as many as three police teams have been deployed in the area.”
