Gadkari, Yogi lay foundation of Delhi-Saharanpur highway in Baghpat, promise to transform the region

Meerut: Union minister for road, transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of Delhi-Saharanpur highway in Baghpat, a ceremony which was marked with high-pitched speeches by the BJP leaders who promised to transform the region by providing “Gurugram-like infrastructure”.The 154-km long national highway will be developed in three phases. In the first phase, a 61-km long stretch of the highway from Baghpat to Shamli will be developed. Once the construction of the highway is completed, Baghpat will be just two hours away from Delhi. The 4-lane highway will have 15 bridges and it will be completed in two years with a cost of Rs 1,505 crore.“We are bringing jobs to all of you without discrimination. Everyone will stand on his or her feet. Be it ASHA workers, Aanganwadi workers, home guards, teachers. There will be 90,000 recruitment in police force. Besides, 97,000 teachers will also be recruited. All are welcome,” said CM Yogi in his address.Union minister Gadkari, on the other hand, promised a fund of Rs 100 crore to clean the contaminated rivers of Baghpat, which fall into the Yamuna river.“Now, Yamuna river will not get dirty water. We have approved a project of Rs 100 crore for water treatment plants for Baghpat rivers. We also have 34 projects exclusively for Yamuna and many of them are in this district only. Besides, we are also working on developing waterways on Ganga at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore. Ganga will be 70% cleaner by the year end,” said Gadkari.Attacking the previous SP and BSP regimes, Yogi said: “When we took over, 1.20 lakh km roads in UP were full of potholes which reflected the shoddy work of the previous governments. Now, we have made the roads pothole free.”Later, in Saharanpur, Yogi said, “No development is possible without the basic infrastructure. And, this highway will give a fresh lease of development to Saharanpur region.”
