Bijnor: A 31-year-old man lodged in Bijnor jail since 2014 died in prison on Tuesday night. Soon after his death, his family accused the jail administration of medical negligence, claiming that their kin wasn’t given proper treatment despite his deteriorating health. They said that he was complaining of severe stomachacheon Tuesday afternoon while being taken to the court for hearing.RK Mishra, superintendent of Bijnor jail, said, “The prisoner, Ashok, was from Lakipura village and was lodged here in 2014 for attempt to murder. He wasn’t feeling well since 3am on Tuesday and was admitted to the jail hospital. He had stomach infection and his blood pressure was low. After some basic treatment, his condition improved and so he was taken to the court for hearing. However, he again complained of stomachache and was admitted to the district hospital. There was no negligence on our part.”The deceased’s family arrived at the district hospital late in the night and blamed the jail administration for Ashok’s death. They said that despite his repeated pleas, the jail administration did not timely take him to the hospital due to which his condition worsened.
