BKU members pen songs to mobilise support for protest march

Muzaffarnagar: Members of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) have composed songs highlighting farmers’ woes and circulating them on social media in a bid to mobilise support for their upcoming protest march which will start on September 23. The songs, composed in local dialects, focuses on pending cane dues, heavy debts and other issues affecting farmers. The march, called ‘Kisan Kranti Yatra’, will begin from the Baba Tikait ghat Haridwar and is slated to reach Delhi on October 2. Farmers from other states such as Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar will also join the movement. The songs also tell the new generation how Mahendra Singh Tikait had helped our farmers.”Dharmender Malik, media in-charge of BKU, said, “The NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is anti-farmer.

The songs, composed in local dialects, focuses on pending cane dues, heavy debts and other issues affecting farmers. According to sources in the BKU , audio clips have already been released for a few songs.Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of BKU, said, “We are using music as a platform to make people aware about farmers’ problems. The songs also tell the new generation how Mahendra Singh Tikait had helped our farmers.”Dharmender Malik, media in-charge of BKU, said, “The NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is anti-farmer. The authorities have only been talking about farmers’ welfare but very little is getting done on the ground. The purpose of this foot march is to make this government understand about the grave issues troubling farmers.”According to BKU sources, as many as 30,000 people are supposed to take part in the march. The supporters are likely to complete 10 km on foot every day. Farmers from other states such as Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar will also join the movement.
