Meerut: A triple talaq victim was allegedly attacked with acid by her brother-in-law on Thursday morning for refusing to undergo ‘nikah halala’ with him in Bulandshahr district. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused.The woman, who is from Delhi’s Okhla area, had moved to Bulandshahr eight years ago after she got married. She was given triple talaq by her husband over a petty issue recently. She later approached a local NGO who helped her petition against the instant divorce in the Supreme Court.According to police, the victim has since been also helping other women who have been given triple talaq or made to undergo nikah halala.Officers also said that the woman’s husband had asked her to undergo halala with her brother-in-law to be able to live as his wife again. A week ago, the accused brother-in-law had allegedly forced her to undergo the ritual to which she had vehemently disagreed. Enraged by it, he attacked the woman with acid.She was rushed to a local hospital by passersby. Senior police officials also landed at the spot to take stock of the situation. Based on a complaint filed by the woman, a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) has been filed against the accused.
