Meerut: After the ‘school chalo abhiyan’ – an initiative to enroll as many children as possible in the primary and upper primary schools –received lukewarm response, as the enrollment ratio dropped in 50 districts compared to last year, the state education department has now issued a slew of instructions to local officials to improve children’s enrolment.“It has been found that despite instructions from the state government to take steps to increase student enrolment, the enrolment rate in many schools of UP remains dismally low in comparison to last academic session. In this backdrop, fresh instructions are being issued to analyse the reason behind the sudden drop this year – by conducting meeting in villages and doing door to door visits,” read the order issued by UP education director Sarvendra Vikram Bahadur Singh. The order also highlighted that the data of aided schools listing student enrolment is generally missed, leading to information gap, and hence it should be checked that the student enrolment data of no school is missed.“All of you are instructed to file all the details of the student enrolment and submit them at the earliest to the state government authorities,” read the order.
