5 dead, over 40 injured as bus turns turtle in Amroha

Bijnor: Five passengers were killed and over 40 sustained injuries after a private bus turned turtle on Joya-Sambhal road in Amroha. Critically injured passengers were shifted to higher medical centres in Meerut and Moradabad.According to police, the bus in which over 40 passengers were travelling was on its way from Syohara to Noorpur. All the injured were admitted in Amroha and Moradabad hospitals for treatment. The condition of 10 is stated to be critical.The bus, on its way from Amroha to Sambhal, was carrying 70 people who were to attend a Muharram procession there. The injured were later rushed to hospital and no casualty has yet been reported.

The driver lost control after a tyre burst on Friday morning around 9am. Senior administration and police officials landed at the spot to take stock of situation. All the injured were admitted in Amroha and Moradabad hospitals for treatment. The condition of 10 is stated to be critical.The bus, on its way from Amroha to Sambhal, was carrying 70 people who were to attend a Muharram procession there. When the vehicle reached near Turkey Inter College on Jiya Sambhal road under Didoli police station area, it turned turtle.The deceased were identified as Naved (17) of Amroha city, Nayab Khatun (35) from Nakhasa of Sambhal district, Maulana Khurshid (55) of Bheekaapur village and Tahjeeb (15) of Hatuva Patti village of Amroha while a deceased was not identified till the time of filing of this report.After getting information, police rushed to the scene. Neighbouring villagers also came to the rescue and helped bring the passengers out of the bus.Amroha superintendent of police Vipin Tada said, “All the dead and injured were from the minority community in Amroha and neighbouring areas, and were on their way to attend a Muharram procession.”In another incident, more than 20 passengers in a bus sustained injuries in varying degrees following a collision with a truck on Tajpur road in Bijnor’s Noorpur on Friday morning. The commuters were evacuated from the bus with the help of locals and police. The injured were later rushed to hospital and no casualty has yet been reported. Critically injured passengers were shifted to higher medical centres in Meerut and Moradabad.According to police, the bus in which over 40 passengers were travelling was on its way from Syohara to Noorpur. When the vehicle reached near Tajpur power house, a truck coming from the opposite side collided with it. According to Noorpur station house officer Suman Kumar all the injured were admitted to district hospital for treatment from where a few of them were referred to Moradabad and Meerut hospitals for treatment. Both vehicles were seized. The truck was loaded with sand.
