With half-yearly exams in Oct, 2L govt school students await notebooks

Four exams are conducted in a year for the students.

Bijnor: With half-yearly examinations round the corner, two lakh students of government schools have been left in the lurch as they are yet to receive notebooks. They have been forced to arrange for notebooks on their own. On their part, officials claim that the order for supply of notebooks has been placed.According to sources in the education department, there are 2,556 primary and upper primary schools in Bijnor district in which more than two lakh kids are enrolled. Four exams are conducted in a year for the students. Out of these, two are session exams, a half-yearly exam and annual exams. So far, one session exam has been conducted in August and a half-yearly exam is due in October.Though the exam schedule is on track, textbooks were provided to students five months after the academic session started and notebooks are yet to reach them. Students are entitled to free notebooks under Right to Education Act but have to manage on their own.Sources said the notebook supply order was given to printers last month and it will days for the consignment to reach here.On being asked about the matter, district coordinator of Sarv Shoksha Abhiyan, Saleem Beg confirmed that no notebook has been provided to students as of now. He said, “The supply order was given to the printers last month and notebooks will arrive here soon.”According to a student of Chandpura primary school, Mohammad Salman, “Earlier, we had no textbooks. When the tecxtbooks came, notebooks are not available. The session exam was conducted without textbooks and notebooks and now, half-yearly exams are due next month. But notebooks are still not available.”
