Meerut: Over 13 years after a scam to the tune of Rs 18 lakh was unearthed at a dairy unit of a cooperative society in Meerut, the Allahabad high court has come down heavily on the economic offence wing (EOW) for “dragging” the case for so long, prompting the UP Police’s probe agency to launch a manhunt to arrest all the accused in the case.A total of 32 accused, including 11 staffers of the Meerut’s Parag unit, were booked after the scam surfaced in 2005.An FIR under sections 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (forged document used as genuine) and 477 of the IPC was registered on the basis on complaint filed by Vijay Kumar Tiwari, the then general manager (GM) of the dairy firm.Later, police also included the name of the complainant GM, and booked him on charges of criminal conspiracy.The former GM, Vijay Tiwari, and seven other accused in the case have now approached the court seeking to quash the FIR against them.The court’s observation came during the hearing of the petitions.Slamming the EOW, the high court asked the department to take disciplinary action against the investigative officer (IO) of the case.However, when contacted, IO Dharmendra Kumar said: “We started our investigation in the case in 2008 and submitted a last progress report (LPR) in 2012.
