Officers have also arrested two women and a man for the crime from a village in Meerut.According to cops, the women have confessed that the sensational daylight robbery was a “routine crime” for them and that they would always wear burqas to cover their faces.

Three women, posing as customers, had decamped with gold worth Rs 40 lakh from a jewellery shop in the busy Bhagat Singh road of Muzaffarnagar on Thursday evening. The crime was caught in CCTV cameras installed in the premises.Superintendent of police (SP), rural, Meerut, Rajesh Kumar said, “A joint team of crime branch Muzaffarnagar and officers from the Kharkhoda police station raided a premises at Narheda village of Kharkhoda block following which two women and a man were arrested. However, the kingpin of the gang is still on the run. A total of 500 grams of gold has also been recovered.” The SP, however, refused to divulge the names of those arrested.According to a police source, the group of women had gone to Dinesh Kumar’s jewellery shop on Thursday evening pretending to be customers. While staff at the shop was kept busy by other customers, one of the woman had quietly put a box containing ornaments under her scarf before fleeing from the shop.“By the time, owner of the shop realised about the theft it was too late. He then informed the Nagar-Kotwali police station and a search drive was soon launched,” said deputy superintendent of police, Harish Bhadauria.
