MEERUT: Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Baghpat’s Dhanora village has put up a ‘No Entry’ board for BJP leaders. The board reads, “BJP walon ka is gaon mein aana sakht mana hai. Jaan-maal vah vaahan ki swayam raksha karein (BJP leaders are not allowed to enter this village. Please take care of yourself, your belongings and vehicles if you enter).” The board, which has been put up after a village panchayat was convened here, aims at preventing BJP leaders from visiting to influence voters ahead of elections. A farmers’ group said that since their entry to Delhi was delayed and they were thrashed even though they were on a peaceful protest, farmers do not support BJP and don’t want them inside the village.Upendra Kumar, a villager said, “A panchayat was convened here and it was finalised, with the agreement of all of us, that we do not want any BJP leader to enter our village. So many farmers including me went to Delhi to register our protest but not only were we not allowed to enter for so long, police also carried out lathi charge on us. Water cannons were used on us. I was one of many who were beaten up with lathis.”The farmers have said that no BJP leader will be allowed to enter the village to seek votes or otherwise as well. And if they happen to enter here, then they are responsible for their personal safety and property.Chaudhary Tejpal Singh, another villager said, “The BJP government had promised that the farmers would get sugarcane dues in 15 days, would make roads free of potholes and would recruit youngsters for jobs. None of these promises were fulfilled. In this backdrop, the farmers had gotten together and gone to Delhi on October 2 to march toward Rajghat, but they were misbehaved with and beaten up by the BJP government. All the farmers and labourers are disappointed by BJP and we have realised that it is an anti-farmer party. Hence, we have put up this board and no BJP leader will be allowed to enter the village to seek votes.”
