Meerut: The “watertight” case registered by Meerut Police against BJP councillor Munish Chaudhary, accused of thrashing a sub-inspector in his restaurant after a tiff, appears to have developed several chinks as on Saturday investigating officer dropped dacoity charges slapped against the local leader.According to sources, the charge of molestation against the BJP leader may also “fall flat” in the court, as the woman accompanying SI Sukhram Singh was “only pushed aside” by Chaudhary during the scuffle. CCTV footages also corroborate it, a senior police official privy to the development told TOI.Two separate FIRs were registered in the same incident. While in one FIR, councillor Chaudhary was accused of dacoity and molestation, in the other he was booked for wrongful confinement and deterring a public servant from discharging his duty.“The evidence in the investigation did not corroborate the dacoity claims. Hence IPC section 395 (punishment for dacoity) was dropped,” said Pankaj Singh, circle officer of Daurala.SI Singh, in-charge of city’s Mohiuddinpur police outpost, was sitting with a woman lawyer friend in the restaurant when he was assaulted by the BJP leader following altercation over delay in serving meals on Friday night.The entire episode was captured in a mobile phone that soon went viral. Currently, Chaudhary is under arrest and investigations are on. The blood samples of Chaudhary and sub-inspector Singh have also been sent to Agra FSL for alcohol content test after local district hospital failed to ascertain it.While SI Singh was attached to Police Lines, the councillor was arrested and sent to jail.
