Muzaffarnagar: With an eye on the 2019 general elections, more and more politicians are lending their voice to the cause of farmers in west UP. Joining the bandwagon on Sunday, Uttarakhand’s former CM Harish Rawat lashed out at BJP-ruled governments at the Centre and state for failing to address problems faced by farmers.Speaking to a gathering in a kisan rally at Charthawal village in Muzaffarnagar, Rawat said, “BJP government had promised to hike minimum support price but is yet to fulfill it. Government is not even directly buying produce from farmers. Cane dues are pending but government is yet to ensure payment to them. We are here to tell farmers to take courage and usher in a new dawn by bringing Congress back to power.”After the rally, the former CM interacted with the media. He said, “Our agenda is clear and straight forward — to solve farmers issues, we will waive farm loans.”Referring to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime introduced by the Narendra Modi government, Rawat said, “We will make GST easy and simplify it, giving relief to minor traders and businessman.”On the recent tussle between top CBI officers, the Congress leader accused the Modi government of trying to prevent a probe into the Rafale deal by “abolishing every institution”.
