Husband strangles woman as she refuses to serve dinner, arrested

A case was registered on Sunday against the woman’s husband and in-laws after her family alleged that she had been murdered by them. However, later, her husband Sarfaraz admitted to strangling after she refused to serve him dinner on Saturday night. Meerut: A 25-year-old woman, whose in-laws had purportedly been torturing her over dowry, was allegedly strangled to death by her husband after she refused to serve him dinner on Saturday night in Baghpat’s Khiwai area. The woman’s in-laws had taken her to a hospital on Sunday morning but she had died by then.“Initially, the in-laws kept saying that she had hanged herself. The in-laws initially claimed that the woman had hanged herself.The couple had been married a little over a year and had an one-year-old boy.

Meerut: A 25-year-old woman, whose in-laws had purportedly been torturing her over dowry, was allegedly strangled to death by her husband after she refused to serve him dinner on Saturday night in Baghpat’s Khiwai area. A case was registered on Sunday against the woman’s husband and in-laws after her family alleged that she had been murdered by them. The in-laws initially claimed that the woman had hanged herself.The couple had been married a little over a year and had an one-year-old boy. Dilip Singh, circle officer, Baghpat, said, “A case has been registered against the husband and in-laws of the woman under section 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 304B (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The body has been sent for postmortem and the case is being investigated.”Police had come to know about the alleged murder on Sunday afternoon, which had taken place on Sunday late night. The woman’s in-laws had taken her to a hospital on Sunday morning but she had died by then.“Initially, the in-laws kept saying that she had hanged herself. However, later, her husband Sarfaraz admitted to strangling after she refused to serve him dinner on Saturday night. Sarfaraz left her in a room, without realising he had killed her. It was only in the morning that her in-laws realized that the woman was dead,” added Singh.Police said that even though the case had been registered against the woman’s husband, his parents and his younger brother, only the husband had been arrested, as he had confessed to the murder. Officials said the case was being investigated and they were waiting for the post-mortem report.
