18 vehicles seized in Muzaffarnagar for flouting SC, NGT order

Meerut: More than one dozen vehicles were seized in a crackdown by the local RTO in compliance of the NGT order to take off petrol and diesel vehicles older than 10 years and 15 years respectively plying on roads.A team of the local RTO in Muzaffarnagar impounded 18 vehicles which were violating the norms. The compliance is expected to invite resistance from farmer bodies who will be up in arms over tractors being impounded. After getting information, BKU workers reached the spot where enforcement team of the ARTO was conducting the checking drive of the vehicles.The incident took place on Bhopa road. During the search drive, a large number of vehicles were stopped in which as many as 18 vehicles like trucks, cars and tractors were seized for not complying norms. People should stop using this kind of vehicles. There were some BKU workers who approached but we told them that commercial vehicles were being seized. The Supreme Court had ordered that sugarcane payment should be made within 14 days but that is not being fulfilled but officials are in a hurry to bother the farmers.”On Monday, the Supreme Court ordered to stop 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles, in the National Capital Region (NCR).Raju Ahlawat, district unit head of BKU, said, “A large number of government vehicles, which are 10-15 years old, are still plying on the roads. If administration does not remove them, we will seize such old vehicles.”
