AGRA: As many as 662 calls of alleged firecracker ban violation were received from 29 western districts of Uttar Pradesh through Dial 100 service on Diwali and Goverdhan Puja.According to data accessed by TOI from dial 100, Agra stood on eighth position in the state with total 47 calls on November 7 and 8, while Meerut reported 72 calls, Ghaziabad 127, Gautam Budh Nagar 84, Aligarh 40, Bulandshahr, Moradabad and Saharanpur reported 26 calls each, Mathura 21, Muzaffarnagar 18, Bareilly and Firozabad 17 each, Bijnor 14, Shamli 13, Hathras, Amroha, Badaun and Shahjahanpur 11 each, Kasganj and Rampur 10 each, followed by Baghpat nine, Etah and Sambhal eight each, Hapur six, Pilibhit five and Mainpuri four.Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a senior UP police official said, “Most calls were of continuously bursting crackers, disturbing peace with loud crackers or mischievously annoying neighbours and selling crackers without licence.”He said, “Action were taken in case of illegal cracker shops who were asked to close down and local police was informed for further action. But in scores of fire cracker bursting cases, the miscreants were found at large when police team reached the spot at the caller's complaint. Though in a few cases, some violators were found to be minors and they were instructed to avoid bursting crackers after given period of time.”“In a few other serious cases, the violators were taken to local police station for legal action,” he added.It’s important to note that according to UP 100, Agra also received 227 medical distress calls, 21 fire incident calls and 1624 other police emergency calls on November 7 and November 8.Speaking on Agra’s 47 calls, SSP Amit Pathak said, “The violators were warned and instructed to not burst cracker and maintain peace and tranquility.”
