Muzaffarnagar: Continuing the on-going crackdown on criminals, Muzaffarnagar police arrested a criminal with Rs 15,000 bounty on his head on Saturday late night. However, another accused managed to slip away from the clutches of the cops.The accused, identified as Tanveer Chaudhry, has been named in several loot cases in Lucknow, Meerut, and Muzaffarnagar. Several cases have been lodged against him in Maharashtra as well. Tanveer’s aide, who managed an escape, has been identified as Tahir.The incident took place in Kakroli area at 2 am when a police team from Kakroli police station signalled a bike rider to stop at the check post. However, the rider fled the spot and entered into a sugarcane field. The police team called for an extra unit and confronted the criminals. However, the two accused opened fire on police units. After minutes of struggle, the police were able to catch Tanveer while his aide Tahir managed to flee from the spot. A police constable suffered injuries in the cross-fire and have been admitted to the district hospital.Police also seized a motorcycle, a country made weapon and many cartridges from the possession of the accused.Superintendent of police (Rural), Alok Sharma said, "Arrested suspect has been identified as criminal Tanveer Chaudhry who is named in multiple criminal cases. A hunt for his accomplice Tahir has been launched.”Notably, it is the third major breakthrough of the city’s police in a week. Prior to this, a dreaded criminal Qayyum Ahmad was arrested on Tuesday (November 6) late-night in a police encounter at Joly Road near Nai Mandi police station. In yet another encounter on Monday night, Mohd Sarfaraz, a criminal with Rs 25k bounty on his head, was arrested from the city area.
