Meerut: Mystery shrouds the death of a BA second-year student who went missing from home on Friday night and was found lying unconscious in a cane field in Hapur's Hafizpur area a few hours later. She died on Saturday evening. The girl (19) was rushed to a primary health centre and was later referred to Hapur district hospital as her condition deteriorated. She was declared brought dead at the district hospital.Based on the complaint lodged by her father, an FIR has been registered against three youths — Naresh Kumar, Lokesh and Sunil — under IPC section 302 ( murder ). Additional charges, if established, will be added during the course of investigation, police said.According to Sankalp Sharma, Hapur SP, post-mortem report has ascertained the cause of death as shock and haemorrhage. “There is an injury on the back of the deceased's head, which was probably inflicted by a blunt heavy weapon. The blow probably was fatal. There are no vital injuries to corroborate claims of sexual assault but slides have been preserved for forensic examination.”In the primary investigation, police claimed that it was clueless about the murder motive despite family of the deceased alleging gangrape and murder by main accused, Naresh, and his two aides, who hail from the same village as the deceased.According to the aggrieved family, their daughter was abducted, gangraped and murdered by the trio accused in the case. Police, however, are taking the claim with a pinch of salt.“Through our sources, we learnt that the deceased was scolded by her elder brother when he was spotted her chatting over the phone on Saturday evening. She went mysteriously missing after that and was later found unconscious in a field,” Hapur SP Sankalp Sharma said.Police also claimed that Naresh, who is on the run, had left his house around the same time when the girl was reported missing. The investigation, which is now open to several possibilities of motive of the murder, is yet to make any headway to demystify the sensational murder which has caught the local police off guard.“As of now, we are going by the claims of the victim’s family and investigation will pick up only after Naresh is caught,” the SP said.
