Two people injured in separate leopard attacks in Afzalgarh

Few passers-by gathered there as soon as he called for help. Scared by the sheer size of the crowd, the leopard ran away, leaving Faem severely injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital.“Faem has sustained severe injuries. But, he is out of danger as of now,” Bijnor divisional forest officer M Semmaran said.In the other incident, a 40-year-old woman was attacked by another leopard when she was farming in a sugarcane field in Salavat Nagar.The incident occurred at 1.30 pm. Mamta, along with three other women, were in the field when the leopard suddenly arrived at the spot and attacked on her face. The three women then called for help, and managed to scare away the leopard.Mamata was later admitted to a nearby hospital, and is undergoing treatment.After receiving information about the attack, a team of forest department from Bijnor reached Salavat Nagar and started combing operation, but with no result.Forest officer Semmaran said, “I have deployed a team of forest personnel to investigate the matter. A cage will be set up in the region to catch the leopard.”However, residents of Afzalgarh have said frequent sightings and attacks by leopard are making their life miserable, and added that several complaints to forest officials have gone unacknowledged.“Every now and then we are seeing leopards attacking people. Their numbers are growing. We had written several times to the forest officials, asking them to install cages, but our pleas have often gone unnoticed,” said a resident Sunil Kumar.
