Meerut: BJP MLC Sarojni Agarwal has landed in a soup over piling allegations of fraud and embezzlement against her family members in the name of residential flats under Samajwadi Awasiya Yojna, a flagship scheme of the erstwhile Akhilesh Yadav government.As of now, 30 FIRs, most naming MLC’s husband and daughter who served as directors in the real estate firm have been registered after scores of complainant approached court. They were turned away by the local police.In a recent FIR filed against BJP MLC’s husband Om Prakash Agarwal, daughter Neema Agarwal and five other people, the complainant Mehruzia claimed that she was duped of Rs 4.62 lakh, which she paid in installments, for a flat under the scheme in 2016. She is yet to get possession of the flat.BJP MLC has categorically denied allegation of any kind of fraud or embezzlement by her daughter and husband and dubbed the allegations and “political witch-hunting”.“We had leased out our land and firm to a private builder. They covertly began operation in the name of another company and duped customers,” said Sarojni Agarwal. “There are people who want to tarnish my name for vested interests,” she said.Sarojni was with Samajwadi Party before 2017 and jumped ship to join BJP after new regime took over.Meanwhile, the latest complainant Mehruzia, a resident of Sardhana town, alleged that she was lured into booking a flat under government scheme by the accused who claimed that beneficiaries will get possessions of their flats by March 2018. “When I went to check on possession status this year, neither the company office nor its staffers were present. When I tried contacting the promoters over phone, they threatened me of dire consequences,” Mehruzia said.An FIR under section 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged document), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 was lodged at Daurala police station.Police claimed that they are still trying to establish the role of family member of BJP MLC in the scam. “The BJP MLC had leased out the land, owned by her daughter and husband, to a private firm which was given contract to build flats under the housing scheme. We are yet to establish if BJP MLC’s family had any direct role in the scam apart from the land ownership. We are taking legal opinion on that,” Akhilesh Meena, Meerut SSP told TOI.
