MEERUT: A frail 68-year-old retired school teacher became a local celebrity of sorts in Meerut’s Sardhana town when she took on hundreds of supporters of controversial and mighty BJP leader Sangeet Som who were blocking a busy city stretch as part of a protest.The public outburst of the teacher, Krishna Dhaka, was captured on mobile phones and was circulated widely on various social media platforms on Monday morning. Dhaka was among the scores of commuters who got stuck in the traffic jam due to the protest.Irked over the prolonged delay, Dhaka walked to the protestors and lambasted them for holding the traffic.“Are kaisi rajneeti hai tumhari? Agar hamare jaise buzurg log dukhi ho rahe hain toh. Tumhe sharam aani chahiye. Buzurgon ko tang kar rahe ho. Shameful. (What kind of politics is this if elders like us are getting troubled? You should be ashamed of troubling people),” Dhaka was heard saying in the video.She was on her way to drop a student to Navodya School here.Later, Dhaka told TOI: “It is sad that parties protest by making religion an issue. If they really want to work for people they should get roads repaired, and improve the condition of schools. I had little idea that somebody was recording my video, but protesting and causing problems to the citizens is not acceptable and hence I took up the matter in my hand.”The protest was organised by members of Sangeet Som Sena, an outfit of followers of the BJP leader. They were demanding the arrest of youths who allegedly assaulted and looted two local men after asking their religion on late Sunday evening.“We have already arrested a man, but the other is at large. Due to this, Sangeet Som supporters had set up a protest here,” said Prashant Kapil, station house officer (SHO) of Sardhana police station.
