Meerut court orders FIR against Shravasti SP, 6 other cops in custodial torture case

No torture took place.” Meerut: A court in Meerut on Wednesday ordered registration of an FIR against superintendent of police (SP) of UP’s Shravasti district Ashish Srivastava , and five other police officers while hearing a petition alleging involvement of the policemen in kidnapping and custodial torture of a youth two years ago in Ghaziabad.The plea was filed by Ghaziabad resident Meenakshi Sharma under section 156 (3) of the CrPC.Additional sessions judge Manjeet Singh Shyoran ordered station house officer (SHO) of Sahibabad police station to lodge FIR under relevant sections and get the investigation done by a competent officer.Meenakshi, in her complaint to the court had alleged that her brother Vijay Sharma was forcibly picked by policemen from Sahibabad police station without notice on September 6, 2016.She alleged in the complaint that Ashish Srivastava, then CO of Sahibabad, an inspector and some other policemen of the station demanded Rs 2 lakh to release her brother Vijay Sharma.After complainant refused the “offer”, her brother was brutally assaulted by CO Srivastava and others at the police station, the petition alleged.Vijay Sharma was later sent to jail under sections of IT act on September 8, 2016.Later, chief judicial magistrate Ghaziabad had accepted the complainant’s plea for medical test of her brother to corroborate claims of torture.The medical report produced in CJM court on September 26, 2016, revealed that there were several serious injuries on the body of Vijay, including several fractures in the legs.The case was later transferred to the Meerut’s anti-corruption court which ordered registration of the case against the SP.When contacted, SP Srivastava told TOI, “We had detained Vijay after complaint from a couple who had alleged that he was in possession of a video clip showing a couple in intimate condition and was extorting money by threatening to leak it.
