‘Outsider’ harasses Meerut College girl, held

‘Meerut: Police had to be summoned on Friday by Meerut College authorities after a youth was caught allegedly harassing a BSc first-year student on the campus. “Strict warnings have already been issued d to students who help their friends trespass into the college campus,” she said. He was handed over to the local police and was let off after his parents arrived at the police station.“We didn't receive any formal complaint from the college neither did the girl press any charges. The youth had entered the campus with his friend who is enrolled in a BA programme of the college.The youth, identified as Samar, 19, tried to approach the girl student on college campus and was later detained by the proctorial board after other students complained about him. We called the youth’s parents and let him off with a warning,” said Lalkurti station house officer Dinesh Chandra.The college authorities claimed that they had stepped up security measures in the college after it gained notoriety over frequent brawls on its campus.

Several incidents of firing have also been reported in the past but the college administration now claims that everything is under control.“Closed circuit television cameras have been mounted at several places on campus and the college maintains zero tolerance policy to any kind of indiscipline within the campus premises,” Alka Chaudhary, college proctor, told TOI.On the issue of “outsiders” on its campus, who are said to be instrumental for brawls, Chaudhary claimed that the college administration has been taking stringent steps to identify outsiders loitering on its campus. “Strict warnings have already been issued d to students who help their friends trespass into the college campus,” she said.
