BJP’s Kamal Sandesh bike rally marked by clashes, brawl in western UP

Meerut: Lakhs of BJP workers poured on UP roads on Saturday morning to make their party’s Kamal Sandesh bike rally a success. In Bijnor, several supporters were injured when two factions of the party clashed following an argument over a minor bike accident. The bike rally was largely a success and we met the target turnout in each district.”In Meerut, chaos prevailed on almost all the city roads. People of the two warring groups attacked each other with lathis in full public view on Delhi-Pauri national highway leaving several injured. The aim of the massive exercise was to make people aware about the achievements of the BJP-led governments in the state and at the Centre.However, clashes and hooliganism marked the ruling party’s rally in most parts of western UP.

The aim of the massive exercise was to make people aware about the achievements of the BJP-led governments in the state and at the Centre.However, clashes and hooliganism marked the ruling party’s rally in most parts of western UP. In Bijnor, several supporters were injured when two factions of the party clashed following an argument over a minor bike accident. People of the two warring groups attacked each other with lathis in full public view on Delhi-Pauri national highway leaving several injured. The rally was being led by local BJP MP Bharatendra Singh.In Shamli district’s Kairana town, supporters of deceased BJP leader Hukum Singh tore party posters and held protests after they found picture of their leader missing from them. The situation was contained after Mriganka Singh, the daughter of Hukum Singh, appealed to her supporters to maintain peace.The images and videos of the incidents were widely shared on social media, with netizens blaming party leaders for “mismanagement”.When asked about it, Vijay Bahadur Pathak, BJP’s state general secretary, said: “They were minor incidents. The bike rally was largely a success and we met the target turnout in each district.”In Meerut, chaos prevailed on almost all the city roads. Several busy stretches were chocked and vehicles moved at snail’s pace.Without wearing helmets, the bikers were seen performing stunts during peak office hours. Several minor scuffles were also reported from parts of the city.“We had done our homework. There was proper deployment of traffic cops at major crossings. Some snarls couldn’t be avoided,” said Sanjeev Vajpayee, superintendent of police (Traffic).When asked about road norms violations by the bikers, SP Vajpayee said: “Our only priority was to maintain law and order, and also to ensure that the traffic was moving.”In Kasganj district, a BJP worker sustained severe injuries after he was run over by another vehicle in the morning. He was rushed to a local hospital where his condition remains critical.
