Four involved in ‘baby-for-cash’ deal held in Meerut

MEERUT: A shocking case of selling baby-girl for money has surfaced after the biological parents of the infant filed a case of abduction against the adopting mother as they were unhappy with the money received.A Baghpat-based couple had allegedly struck a deal to sell their yet-to-be-born daughter to a Noida-based childless couple. Neetu Kumar’s wife was pregnant with female twins. According to police sources, Kumar had promised to give one child to Anita and Manoj Gupta. The children were born on October 26 in a Sonipat based hospital and on Tuesday, Anita descended down to Baghpat village and gifted Kumar Rs 5k and a television set before taking one infant with her.Later, Kumar asked the couple to pay Rs 50,000 for the child. After the Noida-based couple refused the money, Kumar filed a case of abduction against Anita Gupta in Baghpat police station.According to additional SP, Rajesh Srivastava, “The agreement between the two families was about adoption and not about sale but later, on the advise of a villager, Neetu Kumar sought Rs 50,000. This is despite the fact that the childless couple had paid Rs 13,000 for the safe delivery of the twins. However, this kind of arrangement is against the law.
