Slain Gujjar youth had music video extolling his ‘dabang’ attitude on YouTube

Meerut: A day after local authorities came across a poster featuring Ashish Gujjar, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Saturday in Meerut’s Shobhapur village, on the top of a hit-list, a music video featuring him has also surfaced now. They said that the poster carrying the names and photos of the nine Gujjar men was made and circulated soon after the Parya’s murder.Meanwhile, the situation in the village continues to be tense.

Meerut: A day after local authorities came across a poster featuring Ashish Gujjar, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Saturday in Meerut’s Shobhapur village, on the top of a hit-list, a music video featuring him has also surfaced now. The video which shows him as a ‘dabang’ from the village was posted on social media in March this year and has over 14,000 hits.The song, which opens with the line, “Sobhapur ma chhaya, re Badmasi ma chhaya, mera bhaya Asis Gujjar”, has been sung by one Prince Chaprana. Not much is known about the rapper who has a few other music videos on YouTube and is a local.According to the police, the video serves the sole purpose of sending out a message and establishing dominance of one particular community in the village reeling under the caste conflict.Gujjar was one of the accused arrested in the killing of Dalit youth Gopi Parya on April 4, two days after the Bharat bandh violence on April 2 which witnessed one of the worst caste clashes in the western UP region.Nine persons, including Parya’s brother Prashant and their father Tarachand have been named in the murder of Ashish Gujjar.
