Not paid for 3 years, 650 teachers of government-aided madrassas in UP’s Bijnor on the brink of penury

The teachers with graduate degrees are entitled to be paid Rs 8,000 per month while those who have completed their post-graduation are paid Rs 15,000. Bijnor: As many as 650 contractual teachers of government-aided madrasas in Bijnor are on the brink of penury. On Tuesday, a large number of them staged a protest at the district minority welfare office here seeking their dues. Repeated requests to the government departments have fallen on the deaf ears, they claim.In Bijnor, there are 250 such madrasas, but none of the teachers employed there have been paid the dues. Teachers get a monthly stipend ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000.

Bijnor: As many as 650 contractual teachers of government-aided madrasas in Bijnor are on the brink of penury. They have not been paid for the last three years. Repeated requests to the government departments have fallen on the deaf ears, they claim.In Bijnor, there are 250 such madrasas, but none of the teachers employed there have been paid the dues. On Tuesday, a large number of them staged a protest at the district minority welfare office here seeking their dues. These teachers get a monthly stipends ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000.The teachers have been hired under central and state sponsored scheme SPQEM (Scheme for Providing Quality Education in Madarsa).On Tuesday, madarssa teachers met district minority welfare officer Praveen Mishra and demanded their dues. Talking to TOI, a madarsa teacher, Mohammad Salim, said, “We were appointed in 2009. Teachers get a monthly stipend ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000. The teachers with graduate degrees are entitled to be paid Rs 8,000 per month while those who have completed their post-graduation are paid Rs 15,000. But, unfortunately, we have not got our salary since 2015 and have submitted several memorandums to the concerned authorities.”“However, in such a situation, we continue to teach the students. The central government is not paying heed to our plight,” Salim alleged.The scheme seeks to bring about qualitative improvement in madarsa to enable Muslim children attain standards of national education system in formal education subjects. It was aimed at bringing the minority kids in the main stream of education.On being asked about the matter, district minority welfare officer, Praveen Mishra, said: “It is true that salary of SPQEM teachers have not been provided for the last 36 months. It is not only in Bijnor but situation is the same in entire state also. It is the matter pertaining to the government. We have sent the demand to higher authorities in this regard.”
