Bijnor: Villagers fear for their lives as leopard kills cattle

Bijnor: A leopard killed cattle in Bijnor village on Wednesday which created fear in the minds of villagers. The stray cow was eaten by leopard as villagers spotted pugmarks of a leopard near the cow’s body. After the incident, villagers are scared for their lives.The cow was found dead at a field owned by Surendra Singh in Garbawala village of Afjalgarh area. They informed the forest officials about the incident. Forest department officials have set up cameras to keep an eye on leopards.According to villagers, on Wednesday a half-eaten cow was found in a sugarcane field.

The incident took place two days after two cubs were found dead at a farm in Tanda village. Forest department officials have set up cameras to keep an eye on leopards.According to villagers, on Wednesday a half-eaten cow was found in a sugarcane field. They informed the forest officials about the incident. The stray cow was eaten by leopard as villagers spotted pugmarks of a leopard near the cow’s body. After the incident, villagers are scared for their lives.The cow was found dead at a field owned by Surendra Singh in Garbawala village of Afjalgarh area. The villagers told TOI that there are two leopards in the area that are often being spotted, but the forest officials have failed to catch them.Deputy ranger of Dhampur range Shyamalal Yadav said, “The matter has come to my notice and a cage will be set up to trap the leopard.”The two cubs that were found dead in Tanda village located around 32 km away from Garbawala, forest officials claimed that the leopard might have killed them. Villagers fear for their lives as they think the mother of those dead cubs might attack them.Bijnor divisional forest officer M Semmaran said, “We have set up cameras to trap the leopard’s location and are trying to trace both leopards. We will catch them soon.”
