Leopard that killed two cubs caught on camera

This firmed up the suspicion that the adult leopard may have killed the cubs for devouring the dog carcass.The cubs were one-and half year old and had apparently been abandoned by their mother. Bijnor: Days after two leopard cubs were found a sugarcane field in Tanda village on Syohara Thakurdwara road here, the picture of male adult leopard was captured in one of the many trap cameras set up in the area.The foresters believe that the two cubs were probably killed in a dispute with a male leopard over prey. Several trap cameras had been set up in the area to locate the killer big cat since the cubs’ carcasses were found on January 7. One of the carcasses was partially eaten.The postmortem of the carcasses revealed that the cubs had not eaten for three or four days. When a forest team combed the area, it found a partially eaten carcass of a dog and some pugmarks of a mature leopard.

The adult leopard’s picture was captured on the intervening night of January 10-11.Divisional forest officer M Semmaran said, “The killer male leopard’s photo has been captured on camera. Now, we are trying to put a cage in the area to trap it. Besides, the fate of the mother of the cubs is also not known and a search is on for it.”According to forest officials, the cub carcasses were lying in a sugarcane field at Tanda. A farmer spotted them and informed the forest department. One of the carcasses was partially eaten.The postmortem of the carcasses revealed that the cubs had not eaten for three or four days.
