Meerut: A 27-year-old police constable was found dead with two bullets wounds near Meerut’s Kasba police outpost on early Friday morning, with his family alleging that he has been murdered.Local police, on their part, claimed that constable Ankur Chaudhary had killed himself. But, they said that they will probe all the angles and will soon file a murder case on the basis of complaint filed by the deceased’s family.Chaudhary, posted at Meerut’s Kasba police outpost, was found dead on the intervening night of January 10-11. A resident of Shamli’s Jhinjhana area, he was all set to tie the knot on January 20, and had applied for leave starting January 15, police said.According to police, Chaudhary went missing after completing his duty with his patrolling partner on late Thursday night. He had left his mobile phone at the outpost.Later, Chaudhary’s body with two gun-shot wounds -- one in the head and the other near lower abdomen-- was found in a cane field close to the outpost on Friday morning. A country-made pistol was found lying next to his body. The family members of the constable had a heated argument with local policemen at post mortem house after the latter tried to pass it of as a case of suicide.“The police are misleading us from the very beginning. At around 10 in the morning, we were told that Chaudhary committed suicide. After reaching here, we are convinced that he was murdered in the police outpost and his body was left in the field. The policemen are not even letting us see the body,” his cousin alleged. When contacted, Akhilesh Meena, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Meerut said: “Chaudhary’s last call was traced to his would be wife. Police have begun investigation into the matter. There are two bullet wounds on the body. Given the explosive residue on deceased hand, it looks like he had killed himself. But, there are other factors contradicting it. Everything is being taken into account in the investigation.”“We will register an FIR based on the family’s complaint,” the SSP said.
