Swine Flu in Meerut: Patient count reaches 36; more Tamiflu syrups procured

Meerut: With Swine Flu cases increasing every day in Meerut, the patient count in the district reached 36 on Wednesday. Meerut health department had demanded 1,000 vaccines for hospital staff, which reached Meerut on Monday. Meanwhile, the health department has asked the city residents to maintain good hygiene to stay away from the infection.“On Wednesday, the count of swine flu cases reached 36 in Meerut. Surveys are being done at the houses of those who have been detected with Swine Flu and also those living in the neighbourhood are being examined for H1N1 virus. Also, 200 Tamiflu syrups have been procured as the stock was decreasing.Meanwhile, instructions have been given to reserve eight beds in PL Sharma Hospital and 20 beds in Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College for swine flu patients.

Meanwhile, the health department has asked the city residents to maintain good hygiene to stay away from the infection.“On Wednesday, the count of swine flu cases reached 36 in Meerut. Apart from these, three cases – one from Muzaffarnagar and two from Saharanpur – have also tested positive in the microbiology laboratory here. Surveys are being done at the houses of those who have been detected with Swine Flu and also those living in the neighbourhood are being examined for H1N1 virus. The travel history and the people the patients came in contact with are also being scrutinized so that the root of the disease can be reached and contained,” said Dr Raj Kumar, Meerut chief medical officer.With the number of cases shooting up, the health department authorities have set up health camps across the district and are conducting awareness drives about this contagious disease. The patients have to be kept in isolation so that others do not contract it.“We are constantly keeping an eye on the cases that come to our fore from other districts. If such a case comes up, the chief medical officer of the concerned district is informed so that no medical negligence is there,” said Dr Kumar.Active case finding is being done in the areas where swine flu cases have come to light. The standard protocol to tackle swine flu is that once a case of swine flu is reported, the health authorities conduct a case mapping and at least 50 houses situated in proximity of the patient’s house are surveyed and checked in case anyone else has contracted the virus.
