South Meerut most susceptible to swine flu

Against what might be considered as the common belief, Swine Flu positive cases are more in number in the urban parts of the district and not in the rural parts. The health department says that the diseases can be contained only if the patient is isolated from others.

Interestingly, the trend has remained since 2017. In 2017, 70% of the total cases were reported from urban areas and in 2018, out of the total 24 cases reported, as many as 23 cases were from the urban areas,” read the analysis report prepared by the district epidemiology wing of the health department. The Southern part of Meerut includes Jani, Rohta and Makbara Diggi, and the North East meerut includes Machara, Parikshitgarh, Jai Bheem Nagar and Sanjay Nagar.“In 2019, 71.8% of H1N1 patients are males as against 28.1% female patients. Also, the patients in the age group 31-40 are the most susceptible – as 28% of the total patients are from this age group,” read the report.Blaming a major chunk of the total 36 Swine Flu cases in Meerut district on epidemiological linkages, the health department has found that 13 cases have come to fore due to three such linkages. Epidemiological linkages refer to the people who get infected by the disease by coming in direct contact with the patient because he/she belongs to the same family or because they met during the infection period.While nine people belonging to the same family have been detected with Swine Flu, a father-daughter duo and a husband-wife duo have also been detected with the disease – leading to 13 cases due to three linkages. The health department says that the diseases can be contained only if the patient is isolated from others.
