BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait alleges ‘murder’, ‘loot’; probe is on

Muzaffarnagar: Bharatiya Kisan Union’s national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait has claimed two armed bikers on Thursday waylaid his car with an alleged motive to “loot” and “murder” him on Meerut road in Muzaffarnagar. The road was blocked when Tikait's associates interrupted the dispute, and accused bike riders misbehaved with them. Police are investigating the matter.The incident took place when Tikait was heading home after taking a look at his niece’s wedding venue. Muzaffarnagar: Bharatiya Kisan Union’s national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait has claimed two armed bikers on Thursday waylaid his car with an alleged motive to “loot” and “murder” him on Meerut road in Muzaffarnagar. The bikers, however, fled leaving their vehicle behind after Tikait’s gunner tried to nab them.Tikait was on his way home for his niece’s wedding, scheduled for Friday, when the incident took place. Police are investigating the matter.The incident took place when Tikait was heading home after taking a look at his niece’s wedding venue. Tikait said, “There were two men on a bike carrying country-made pistols who tried to stop my car. My gunner stepped out of the car to nab them but they fled leaving their bike behind. I think they came to shoot or loot me. Now police will find out who they were and what was their real motive?”After the incident, police rushed to the spot and seized the abandoned bike, and launched an investigation into the matter. Later, a number of BKU workers and prominent faces like BJP MP Sanjeev Balyan, farmer leader Ashok Baliyan reached Tikait's house to know about his well-being.Police has a different version of the incident. Superintendent of police (city) Omveer Singh said, "The initial investigation revealed that accused bike riders were fighting with a tempo driver in the middle of the road. The road was blocked when Tikait's associates interrupted the dispute, and accused bike riders misbehaved with them. As soon as Tikait’s gunner tried to nab them, they fled without their bike. We are now trying to identify the bike owner and accused, and action will be taken accordingly.”BKU’s district president Raju Ahlawat warned, "If accused are not arrested within two days, a massive protest will be launched.”
