Ram Rahim’s dera ‘attacked’, cops say no

Meerut: A day after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was awarded life term for the 2002 murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati, his dera in Meerut’s Soorajkund was allegedly attacked and a car set ablaze. Sources claimed that unidentified people attacked the dera in Soorajkund, however, police denied that any attack or arson had taken place.According to sources, the dera of Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s was allegedly attacked by unknown miscreants and an Indigo car parked in the premises was burnt by them. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Meerut chief fire officer, said, “The incident took place on Friday morning when locals informed that smoke was coming out of the dera. If we get any complaint in this regard, we will set up an investigation in the matter.” On reaching the spot, we found that a car was on fire.

One fire tender was pressed into service to douse the fire.”At the same time, Sharma said it was not clear whether the car caught fire on its own or someone set it afire.Abdul Rehman Siddiqui, station house officer, Civil Lines police station, said, “We have not received any complaint in the matter and prima facie it looks like that the car caught fire on its own. If we get any complaint in this regard, we will set up an investigation in the matter.”
