Noida extortion case: Hearing on accused bail plea deferred till Feb 4

Meerut: A local anti-corruption court on Thursday deferred the hearing on a bail plea moved by inspector Manoj Pant and three journalists — Sushil Pandit, Udit Goyal and Raman Singh — arrested in Noida on Wednesday in extortion case. "We have summoned criminal record of the accused and a report from the investigating officer on the bail plea. The court fixed February 4 as the next date of hearing after additional district government counsel (ADGC) Siraj Alvi objected to the bail plea. 32 bore pistol was recovered from all the four accused who were arrested by the team and produced in an anti-corruption court in Meerut later on Wednesday evening. The next hearing has been scheduled for February 4," ADGC Alvi said.

All four accused were arrested from Noida’s Sector 20 police station area on Wednesday during an operation and were produced in Meerut’s anti-corruption court on Wednesday evening which sent all the accused to 14-day judicial custody.Noida police, led by SSP Vaibhav Krishna, had conducted a trap operation after one Pushpendra Chauhan , the owner of a call centre in Sector 6 — which was raided on November 27-28 last year — lodged a complaint with the district police chief, claiming extortion threats from some reporters and Sector 20 SHO Pant.Two teams were formed under Noida SP (city) Sudha Singh and SP (rural) Vineet Jaiswal, comprising two nominated officials from the fisheries and the weighing and measurement department, which conducted the operation on Wednesday morning.During the operation, Rs 8 lakh in cash a Mercedes car and. 32 bore pistol was recovered from all the four accused who were arrested by the team and produced in an anti-corruption court in Meerut later on Wednesday evening.
