Expelled for anti-party activities, BSP MLA returns to party

Mohammad Iqbal, who was expelled earlier this year on charges of anti-party activities, was brought back into party's fold as in-charge of Bijnor Lok Sabha seat. Bowing down under pressure from agitating party loyalists, Iqbal was brought back and made in-charge here.Iqbal was expelled on December 19 and SP’s former MLA Ruchi Veera was made in-charge of Bijnor Lok Sabha seat on December 22. The announcement regarding the same was made at a public function in Chandpur on Sunday.Infighting had begun in the party after Samajwadi Party defector Ruchi Veera joined the BSP bandwagon and was made in-charge of its Lok Sabha seat earlier this year. This had irked several party members and workers who had openly rebelled against the decision. It is a big jolt for Veera who had left SP to get BSP’s ticket.Iqbal was first elected as an MLA from Chandpur assembly seat in 2007 and won Chandpur again in 2012.

Bijnor: Churning continues in Bahujan Samaj Party’s Bijnor unit. Mohammad Iqbal, who was expelled earlier this year on charges of anti-party activities, was brought back into party's fold as in-charge of Bijnor Lok Sabha seat. However, she was later ousted from the post after hundreds of BSP workers resigned from their posts.The new announcement was made at Chandpur by west UP coordinator Shamsuddin Raeen at a public meeting and confirmed Iqbal’s appointment to the post. He said that BSP-SP alliance will win the support of voters and stop the BJP. It is a big jolt for Veera who had left SP to get BSP’s ticket.Iqbal was first elected as an MLA from Chandpur assembly seat in 2007 and won Chandpur again in 2012. However, he was lost to BJP leader Kamlesh Saini in 2017 polls.Iqbal grabbed headlines a few years ago for holding kangaroo courts in Chandpur. However, he was acquitted by court due to lack of evidence.
