MEERUT: Three days after a trainee sub-inspector hanged himself , citing ‘work pressure and ‘mental torture’ by his seniors, police on Sunday lodged ‘murder’ case against the station house officer under whom the deceased S-I worked.The FIR was lodged by the S-I’s widow Shilpi, who claimed in her complaint that her husband — Kuldeep Kumar Singh — was murdered by Inspector Abhishek Sirohi, who was the in charge Rankhandli police post where he (Kuldeep) was posted. “A written complaint was lodged by the family levelling murder charge against the SHO, though we insisted on departmental inquiry to get over. But eventually we had to lodge an FIR under Section 302 of the IPC against inspector Sirohi and two other unknown at Deoband Kotwali,” SSP Dinesh Kumar. The police was forced to lodge the FIR after Kuldeep’s family members held a protest at Deoband Kotwali. “Based on postmortem report which shows ante-mortem hanging as the cause of death, the murder charges could be replaced by abetment to suicide under Section 306,” the SSP added.A departmental probe under Saharanpur SP rural Vidyasagar Mishra has been initiated and Sirohi has been shifted to Qutubshahi police station till the inquiry continues.”This comes a day after the SSP had defended inspector Sirohi claiming that work pressure at police stations was normal and it would be unfair to punish the inspector who was just carrying out his duties. “There is work pressure at thana level to perform and it is normal to be scolded by your seniors. This happens to everyone. We cannot punish the inspector just because he asked the SI to do this job ,” the SSP had said.SI Singh allegedly ended his life on Thursday. Immediately after that an audio clip sent by him to CO, Deoband was quoted to reveal that ‘he wanted to become a writer and not a cop’.
