Slaughterhouse owned by BSP's Yakub Qureshi to be sealed

Meerut: Meerut Development Authority (MDA) is planning to seal and shut operations of Al Fahim slaughterhouse owned by former BSP MP Yaqub Qureshi onGarh Road here. Earlier, they had claimed that they demolished the non-compoundable construction, but our inspection team found out that this was not done," the MDA secretary said. "In a board meeting held on Wednesday, MDA has decided to seal the illegal slaughterhouse on February 12, for which heavy police deployments will be made. MDA claims that the layout plan of the slaughterhouse was not approved by the authority and the owners did not heed to the authority's notice to demolish the illegal structure. MDA had earlier decided to seal the factory on December 18 last year but the company had procured a stay order from the Meerut commissioner.

The stay has now been cancelled and the slaughterhouse will be sealed on February 12," MDA secretary Rajkumar said.The development comes days after Qureshi was made BSP's in-charge in Meerut for the coming Lok Sabha elections, and who is being considered as one of the strongest contenders for the candidate from the Meerut Lok Sabha constituency. Yakub had gained international notoriety for announcing a Rs 51-crore reward on the head of the Danish newspaper cartoonist who had drawn a cartoon of Prophet Mohammad.Senior officials in the MDA claim that the layout map for the plant was not sanctioned by MDA, following which notice was served on the company last year.The firm had then approached the Meerut commissioner's office for relief.“In our notice, we had clearly stated that the unit will be compounded and non-compoundable construction would be demolished. Earlier, they had claimed that they demolished the non-compoundable construction, but our inspection team found out that this was not done," the MDA secretary said.
