82% of H1N1 positive cases are from urban parts: Health dept

Meerut: An analysis of the swine flu cases conducted by the health department here has revealed that more patients from urban areas have tested positive for the H1N1 virus than those in rural areas.With 82% of H1N1 cases being from urban parts, south west Meerut has been found to be most susceptible to swine flu, the health department has found. South west Meerut includes the Cantonment area, Rajban, Kankerkhera, Sardhana and Saroorpur area.“In 2019, until February 6, 82% of the H1N1 positive cases have been reported from urban areas of Meerut. Interestingly, the trend has remained since 2017. In 2017, 70% of the total cases were reported from urban areas and in 2018, out of the total 24 cases reported, as many as 23 cases were from the urban areas,” read the analysis report prepared by the district epidemiology wing of the health department. The report focuses on the data till February 6.Also, out of the total swine flu cases reported in Meerut till February 6, the maximum cases were reported from south west Meerut (40) followed by north east Meerut (25) and south east Meerut (22).North east Meerut includes Machara, Parikshitgarh, Jai Bheem Nagar and Sanjay Nagar.“In 2017, the total number of Swine Flu cases reported in Meerut was 395. In 2018, the number of cases in Meerut was 24. In 2019, up to February 6, the number of cases was 142,” said Rachna Tandon, Meerut district epidemiologist.“Also, it has been found that epidemiological linkages played a major role in the spread of the disease. Epidemiological linkages refers to people who get infected by the disease by coming in direct contact with the patient because he/she belongs to the same family or because they met during the infection period. As many as 32 patients were detected with the disease due to 10 epidemiological linkages,” read the report.
