M’gar police offers reward for info on illicit liquor

Muzaffarnagar: With the toll in the UP-Uttarakhand hooch tragedy mounting to 116 on Sunday, Muzaffarnagar police announced a reward for those who informed about illicit liquor sellers. More than 24 people who were involved in making and selling illicit liquor were arrested and sent to jail.” The raids will continue till we curb this illegal business. Since the hooch–related deaths in Saharanpur and Haridwar in neighbouring Uttarakhand, more than 24 people have been arrested for making illegal liquor and hundreds of litres of liquor seized and destroyed.According to police sources, six joint teams comprising personnel from police department and excise department have been conducting multiple raids against illicit liquor units in the district.Senior superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar said, “As many as 200 raids have so far been conducted. Their identity would be kept a secret, police said.Police made an announcement to the effect via the public address system from police vehicles both in urban and rural areas in the district.At the same time, all police stations have been directed to conduct raids in their areas to curb illegal manufacture and sale of liquor.
