The number of students appearing in the district has dipped over the years and authorities say that the reason behind this is the cancellation of fake registration of students. In January 2019, a letter with life threat to secondary education department secretary of Meerut region and two others had created chaos in the Meerut education department here. The life threatening letter, authorities said, had come as the department authorities cancelled the registration of 7,000 students for the upcoming UP Board exams. These students had used fake documents for registration and the letter demanded that the decision of cancelling them should be revoked or one of the three will be murdered.
