Meerut: Launching a scathing attack on the central government, Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh said, “The cow first ate the farmer’s crop and now it will consume the government too. Gai ki hai lagegi BJP ko (The BJP will face the curse of the cow).”He was speaking at the party’s well-attended Satta Parivartan rally in Shahpur region of Muzaffarnagar on Monday.His remarks come in the backdrop of a stray cattle menace in the state. As mob frenzy peaks across the state with farmers, irate over crop damage, locking up stray cattle in schools and other government buildings, the state government has clamped down on those abandoning or locking up cows with swift legal action, including imprisonment. In an incident in Aligarh’s Iglas last month, a dozen cows were found to have been buried alive.Taking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh said on Monday, “Modi is running an event management company and not a government. He made serious issues like surgical strikes, Kargil Vijay Diwas and even former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death look like well managed events. He got 480 asthi kalash made. Itni to asthiyan bhee nahin hoti hain (Even human body doesn’t have these many bones).”Making an indirect reference to the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, Ajit Singh said, “BJP rose from Muzaffarnagar and will get buried here only. They engineer riots. They even tried it in Bulandshahr recently. You all need to be careful.”In the 2014 general elections, RLD had suffered a rout with a blank tally. Later, in the 2017 assembly polls, the party could win only a single seat in Chaprauli of Baghpat. However, they later won the crucial Kairana LS seat in a bypoll following an alliance with SP and BSP.Recently, during multiple rounds of talks with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, party’s national vice president Jayant Chaudhary wanted at least six seats in grand alliance, but according to party sources, had to settle for three, including Baghpat and Muzaffarnagar.
