MDA seals machines at Yakub Qureshi's abattoir

MEERUT: Authorities in Meerut sealed all the machineries of a slaughter house owned by BSP leader Yakub Qureshi on Tuesday. "The map produced by Qureshi for his slaughter house was not sanctioned because parts of the abattoir belong to the graam samaaj. But it is under process and we cannot sanction construction here until the formalities are completed," said Kumar. "He has applied for the change of land use too. While no confrontation between the officials and party workers was reported, the MDA authorities only sealed the slaughter house machines and returned without demolishing the "illegal" parts of the abattoir.Parts of the slaughter house are constructed on a land which has no 'No Objection Certificate' for it and falls under 'non-compoundable' area.

Although, the Meerut Development Authority (MDA) officials had gone to demolish a portion of the slaughter house, they later asked the BSP leader to raze it himself and returned after serving a notice.The local politician was also hosting a convention of party workers at the factory premises on Tuesday.MDA official accompanied by a police team held talk with Qureshi and returned. While no confrontation between the officials and party workers was reported, the MDA authorities only sealed the slaughter house machines and returned without demolishing the "illegal" parts of the abattoir.Parts of the slaughter house are constructed on a land which has no 'No Objection Certificate' for it and falls under 'non-compoundable' area."The map produced by Qureshi for his slaughter house was not sanctioned because parts of the abattoir belong to the graam samaaj. He claims to have filed for the exchange, wherein he will give another piece of land in exchange of this land, but the procedure is yet to be completed," said Raj Kumar, secretary, MDA.Qureshi was recently announced as the BSP's Lok Sabha in-charge for the Meerut-Hapur seat.The BSP leader had hit the headlines in 2006 when he had announced Rs 51-crore bounty on the head of a Danish cartoonist for making 'blasphemous' cartoons on Islam. In 2017, his daughter allegedly barged into a Meerut school with a whip and thrashed a few girls who complained about her niece's bunking school.MDA officials also said that the land use of the plot on which his abattoir is built is agriculture, despite it being used as industrial. "He has applied for the change of land use too. But it is under process and we cannot sanction construction here until the formalities are completed," said Kumar.
