UP govt schools to go digital, 159cr earmarked for procurement of items

Meerut: In a move which is set to make the schools of Uttar Pradesh digital, the state government has earmarked Rs 159 crore for the procurement of laptops, projectors, tablets, printers and other hardware items under the ICT and Digital Initiative Program wing of Integrated Scheme For School Education. A proposal in this regard was sent and as many as 4,400 assistant block resource persons and 1.58 lakh UP primary and upper primary schools will get tablets with data plan, laptops, projector with screen, computer, UPS and printers. The team will include the UP education director (basic) as its head and seven other members.

This is the first move by the state government wherein projectors, laptops, tablets and other computer-related items will be distributed among schools.“Under the ICT and Digital Initiative Program wing of Integrated Scheme block, education officers, block resource persons, principals of primary and upper primary schools were to get tablets with internet plans, computer hardware and other items. A proposal in this regard was sent and as many as 4,400 assistant block resource persons and 1.58 lakh UP primary and upper primary schools will get tablets with data plan, laptops, projector with screen, computer, UPS and printers. An amount of Rs 159 crore has been set aside for the purpose,” read the order issued by Umesh Kumar Tiwari, UP under secretary. The order was issued by Tiwari to UP education director (basic).An eight-member team has been made at the state level which will decide the specifications of the computer and the aided devices. The team will include the UP education director (basic) as its head and seven other members. On the basis of the specifications decided by the eight-member team, a five-member team at district level, headed by the district magistrate, will procure the items from Government e Marketplace (GeM) portal.“We are yet to get written instructions about the money allotted to our district. Once we have it, the procurement will be done as asked,” said Meerut district education coordinator Harinder Singh.
