Bijnor: Former Bijnor legislator Ruchi Veera who rejoined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) two months ago has been expelled from the party for anti-party activities.The announcement to the effect was made by BSP’s district unit president Rajendra Singh. He said “Veera has been expelled from the party for indulging in anti-party activities on Friday. The decision was taken on the instruction of party high command.”According to party sources, after a brief stint in BSP, Veera had joined Samajwadi Party ticket. She was elected as MLA from Bijnor assembly seat in 2014 bypoll on an SP ticket but lost the 2017 assembly election in UP.Recently, Veera switched sides in view of the mahagatbandhan between SP-BSP in the state. Anticipating that under the new seat-sharing agreement between SP-BSP, the Bijnor seat would probably go to BSP, she joined BSP, said observers. She was made in charge of Bijnor Lok Sabha seat on December 22. But this did not go down well with other BSP leaders, who openly revolted against her, citing that in the past how she as SP MLA had gone against Dalits and BSP workers.Two-time former MLA and BSP veteran Mohammad Iqbal opposed her elevation in the BSP as Bijnor in charge. He was expelled from the party.Similarly, Chandpur’s BSP leaders also questioned Veera’s appointment and resigned from their post. Around 150 booths presidents and vidhan sabha-level leaders protested against Veera’s elevation in BSP party office.Sensing the mood among party cadre, BSP’s high command removed Veera from her post and Mohammad Iqbal was brought back to the party on February 3 and made Bijnor’s in charge.Since then, the churning continued over Veera’s role in the party. A new twist was added late on Friday evening when BSP high command expelled her, dashing her hopes of getting a ticket from BSP to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.According to observers, since the SP-BSP mahagatbandhan, leaders cutting across party lines are adopting various tactics to get a Lok Sabha ticket. Recently, BJP MLA from Meerapur constituency of Muzaffarnagar Avtar Singh Bhadana quit the party and joined Congress.
