Traders shut Budhana Gate market to pay tribute to martyrs

Meerut: Traders in the city kept Budhana Gate market shut on Sunday to offer condolences to the CRPF jawans killed in the terrorist attack in Pulwama. The traders demanded strict action against the terrorists and hoped that the government would take appropriate steps against Pakistan.“We kept the Budhana Gate market shut for a day to mark our condolences and pay tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in the Pulwama attack. The traders also observed fast,” said Naveen Gupta, district president, Meerut Traders’ Association.The traders had kept Begampul market shut on Saturday and others across the state had pulled down their shutters as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives in the attack. “We are mulling over a Meerut bandh to show our solidarity but we are yet to decide on that. All the deceased were cremated with full state honours on Saturday.

However, we expect that the government gives a befitting reply to Pakistan and appropriate steps are taken to instill fear in terrorists,” said Gupta.Of the 44 CRPF personnel who lost their lives in attack, 12 belonged to Uttar Pradesh. All the deceased were cremated with full state honours on Saturday.
