Meerut jawan among four army personnel killed in Pulwama operation

MEERUT: Ajay Kumar , 27, an army jawan from Bassi Tikri village in Jani block of Meerut is among four army personnel martyred in Pulwama encounter on Monday.Four soldiers, including a Major, and two terrorists were killed in an overnight encounter that took place in South Kashmir's Pulwama district According to reports, four army personnel and a civilian sustained grievous injuries in the initial exchange of gunfire. Kumar's father Veerpal Singh is also an ex-army man. All were moved to army base hospital in Srinagar but all four personnel succumbed to bullet injuries.Posted in 55 Rashtriya Rifles , Ajay Kumar is survived by wife Dimple and 2-year-old son Arav. That was the last time he spoke to his wife telling her he was going for a special operation." Ajay was inducted into the Army in 2011 and got married in 2015.

Kumar's father Veerpal Singh is also an ex-army man. According to Singh, "After attack on CRPF bus, we were really worried and called him on Sunday. That was the last time he spoke to his wife telling her he was going for a special operation." Ajay Kumar was on a month leave and had left on January 31.To make matters worse for the family, Veerpal has lost both sons, the elder one died a few months ago. He has a daughter who is married.The entire village swooped down on Veerpal's home soon after the news of Ajay Kumar's death arrived. Ajay was inducted into the Army in 2011 and got married in 2015.
