With 3 seats in kitty, RLD says ‘all is well within gathbandhan’

When asked if they had got the desired number of seats, Jayant had then told TOI, “Rome was not built in a single day. Efforts are on.”Two seats were initially allocated to the RLD, but now SP has given one more seat from its quota to Ajit Singh’s party. Party president Ajit Singh has already given firm directions to the workers to campaign for alliance. The truth is RLD is part of the SP-BSP alliance. Baghpat will certainly be the seat for Jayant Chaudhary.”It is not clear who will contest from Mathura seat which Jayant had fought and won in 2009 but lost to Hema Malini in 2014.

Meerut: Soon after the BSP and SP released a seat sharing list on Thursday in which three seats – Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar and Mathura – were left for Rashtriya Lok Dal, the party leadership said all was well within the gathbandhan.A day earlier, reports in a section of media claimed that Congress west UP in-charge Jyotiraditya Scindia had met RLD’s national vice-president Jayant Chaudhary in its bid to stitch together an alliance.Rubbishing these reports, Jayant Chaudhary released a statement on Thursday. “A few media reports are unnecessarily creating confusion. The truth is RLD is part of the SP-BSP alliance. Party president Ajit Singh has already given firm directions to the workers to campaign for alliance. There is no ambiguity in this.”After Jayant had met Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow last month for the seat-sharing arrangement, there was lack of clarity as both the leaders kept mum. When asked if they had got the desired number of seats, Jayant had then told TOI, “Rome was not built in a single day. Efforts are on.”Two seats were initially allocated to the RLD, but now SP has given one more seat from its quota to Ajit Singh’s party. Presently, it holds the Kairana seat which it won in a by-poll.Party workers are almost certain that Baghpat, the traditional seat of Ajit Singh and Chaudhary Charan Singh before that, will now go to Jayant to mark the generational shift within RLD.According to Raj Kumar Sangwan, RLD’s state organisational secretary, “Chaudhary sahib (Ajit Singh) has been a six-time MP from Baghpat and now he has left the legacy to his son, which is quite logical. That is the reason he is fighting from Muzaffarnagar. Baghpat will certainly be the seat for Jayant Chaudhary.”It is not clear who will contest from Mathura seat which Jayant had fought and won in 2009 but lost to Hema Malini in 2014.
