With only 11 employees, staff crunch hits Meerut RTO

MEERUT: With only 11 out of 26 employees providing services at the Regional Transport Office in Meerut , the office is dealing with severe staff crunch. We are dealing with severe staff crunch but there is little we can do apart from informing the state authorities about the matter,” Meerut regional transport officer Vijay Kumar said.The Meerut RTO authorities wrote to the state authorities about the staff crunch but to no avail. We have one counter for each service but as of now, we have only 11 employees fulfiling the requirement of all the services. The work load type has only changed but not reduced,” Kumar said.Authorities have sought outsourcing of employees if regular recruitments cannot be made. The state government authorities have not reverted to them in this regard.

Agreeing to the fact that majority of the services have moved online, officials said that only the type of work load has changed but with limited staff, it gets difficult to cater to the masses.“As many as 26 services including learning driving license, permanent driving license, supplicate driving license and others are provided at the RTO office. We have one counter for each service but as of now, we have only 11 employees fulfiling the requirement of all the services. We are dealing with severe staff crunch but there is little we can do apart from informing the state authorities about the matter,” Meerut regional transport officer Vijay Kumar said.The Meerut RTO authorities wrote to the state authorities about the staff crunch but to no avail. The problem continues as no new people have been recruited here and there are employees nearing retirement.“I understand that majority of the services provided by the RTO have moved online but this doesn’t mean that there is no human intervention at all. The papers need manual inspection and then only it is fed into the system with correct details. The work load type has only changed but not reduced,” Kumar said.Authorities have sought outsourcing of employees if regular recruitments cannot be made. The state government authorities have not reverted to them in this regard.
