Rickshaw puller dies of heart attack after cops allegedly thrashed him

BIJNOR: 35-year-old rickshaw puller , Saleem Ahmed who was mediating between two groups fighting with each other over money, died of heart attack after police allegedly thrashed him and threatened to detain him. According to family members of the deceased, “There was some disagreement between two shopkeepers over money. One group informed the cops but by the time the cops reached the spot, the other group ran away. Investigation report revealed that Saleem was not thrashed.” Police allegedly thrashed Saleem who was present there and asked him to appear at the police station.”“After this episode, Saleem alias Sukke, resident of Kashiram Colony, got depressed and when he reached his house, he complained of pain in his chest.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital but doctors declared him brought dead.The incident took place on Tuesday night when two groups started a fight at Civil Lines area. According to family members of the deceased, “There was some disagreement between two shopkeepers over money. Saleem, who knew both the groups, tried to pacify them. One group informed the cops but by the time the cops reached the spot, the other group ran away. Police allegedly thrashed Saleem who was present there and asked him to appear at the police station.”“After this episode, Saleem alias Sukke, resident of Kashiram Colony, got depressed and when he reached his house, he complained of pain in his chest. Family members took him to hospital but doctors declared brought dead,” family members alleged.A video of the deceased’s kin is making rounds on social media.Secretary of rickshaw association, Nanak Chand Kheda said, “We have called a meeting of the association leaders to take the decision if we should launch an agitation or not.”When TOI contacted city SP, Lakshmi Nivas Mishra, he refuted the allegations and said, “All the allegations are baseless. I had set up an enquiry in this connection. Investigation report revealed that Saleem was not thrashed.”
